ABOUT THE TRIP
Head off for a seven-day independent adventure by train from anywhere in the UK. Stay first in Montreux for two nights, a beautiful Swiss town with a Mediterranean vibe, which sits beside Lake Geneva surrounded by mountains and vineyards. Stay in Hotel Mona with its spectacular lake views, wander the flower-lined promenade with its Freddie Mercury statue, visit Chillon Castle, or take the funicular up to Rochers-de-Naye for sensational views of the Alps. Next, take the Golden Pass Express from Montreux's Riviera up to the Bernese Alps, which weaves its way through some stunning landscapes to Interlaken, then board the Lucerne-Interlaken Express for equally incredible scenery before arriving in Lucerne for a two-night stay. Take a trip up Mount Pilatus or Mount Rigi from Lucerne, enjoying a boat journey, cogwheel railway and cable car, plus the most incredible views. Continue on to Strasbourg, the capital of France's Alscace region, for the final two nights. Strasbourg's location on the German border gives it a unique Franco-German culture, and it boasts medieval architecture, the gothic Notre-Dame cathedral (which you can climb up) with an astronomical clock and picturesque canals. Enjoy a boat trip through the city and up to the European Parliament, plus a three-hour private tour of the Alsace region.
